the world is awesome
Darth Mojo is sharing his hour-plus sci-fi dance mix.

not done listening yet. so far, i'm happiest about the Six Million Dollar Man mix, but the Prisoner one and the extended Futurama theme were pretty cool...

ETA: there are at least two different classic Battlestar Galactica mixes. "this is Captain Apollo..."

and Canada is too a country!

BSG
i stopped watching BSG when it moved to ten on a school night. after the promise of Adamaisgod!rawr!awesomespacebattlerescue!squee!!1!<3 the season wound down to not being worth the effort of programming my VCR.

so, spoil me. what happened, and why should i care or not care?

BSG
i've never understood the fistfights with your friends thing. i remember watching A River Runs Through It and being thoroughly perplexed by the brothers breaking shit with each other's faces and then being the best of friends afterwards. i had no interest in Fight Club because of it. (i quite like the movie now that i've seen it. but i like it in spite of the fighting ritual.)

i do periodically play fighting games with C, and we both love it. we've also sparred a bit. (it's strangely sexy.) but it's never about working out our problems, it's just play. it could as easily be a racing game (except that i don't like them) or dancing.

where does that alchemy happen where shedding blood makes us bond? or is that a fabrication of entertainment? i think that it probably is not, since there tends to be some shade of truth whenever stories deal with human relationships.

some BSG spoilers )

someone actually tried to ask me the question from Fight Club once. "if you could fight anyone, alive or dead, who would you fight?" the answer on the tip of my tongue was "you." i never did answer. but i wonder sometimes what it would have been like to take a swing. i expect i would have been the first person to run into a neighboring business to ice their broken nose and then get them to the hospital. it's who i am. i don't know how i feel about that.

BSG
i just finished taping the second airing of BSG for [info]markbourne and spoilers )

Isolde has experienced final death, and lives in the attic. i may yet extract her hard drive, but she certainly had a long and productive life. meanwhile, [info]bhagwanx facilitated her replacement with an equally old, but much less rickety girl...full of expensive software. since i don't play games, i'm very happy. i can even run photoshop and illustrator at the same time, which i really didn't expect with RAM slots left to fill. i've renamed and repassworded most everything and upgraded the OS and installed firefox and adium. i logged in as root and did not break anything or die. yon Cylon fetus icon was animated on this box. yay.

SciFi Friday

we watched SciFi last night while sorting papers (keep-shred-recycle) and folding clothes. mostly this was for a re-viewing of Tooth and Claw, and a hate-lust relationship with BSG.

but the real prize of the evening turned out to be Heroes. we only have cable because of the internet, and we rarely turn on the television, so i've heard almost nothing about this one beyond seeing headlines on SciFi Wire. it's smart and compelling, and the premise is waaaay cool. i might even tape the normal showing on Monday. we'll see if i'm just charmed by the Japanese guy or if it has real staying power.

Tooth and Claw spoilers )

BSG spoilers ) i give them two more episodes to not fuck it up.
